How Does the Fortune Teller Miracle Fish Work

If you place the plastic  Fortune Teller Miracle Fish  in your hand, it will bend and wiggle. You can reportedly decipher the movements of the fish to predict your future. But those movements—though they may seem miraculous—are a result of the chemical composition of the fish. This is how the fish works as well as the science and engineering behind this fortune-telling device. Childrens Toy The Fortune Teller Miracle Fish is a novelty item or childrens toy. It is a small red plastic fish that will move when you place it in your hand. Can you use the movements of the toy to predict your future? Well, you can, but expect about the same level of success as you would get from a fortune cookie. It doesn’t matter, though, because the toy is great fun. According to the company that manufactures the fish—which appropriately is called  Fortune Teller Fish—the fishs movements describe specific emotions, moods,  and temperament of the person holding the fish. A moving head means the fish-holder is the jealous type, while a motionless fish indicates that the person is a dead one. Curling sides mean that the person is fickle, but if the fish curls up entirely, the holder is passionate. If the fish turns over, the holder is false, but if its tail moves, she  is an indifferent type. And a moving head  and  tail? Well, watch out because that person is in love. The Science Behind the Fish The Fortune Teller Fish is made of the same chemical used in disposable diapers:  sodium polyacrylate. This  special salt will grab onto any water molecules that it touches, changing the shape of the molecule. As the molecules change shape, so does the shape of the fish. If you submerge the fish in water, it wont be able to bend when you place it on your hand. If you let the fortune teller fish dry out, it will be good as new. Steve Spangler Science  describes the process in a bit more detail: The fish grabs onto  the moisture on  the surface of your palm, and since the palms of human hands have a  lot  of sweat glands, the plastic (fish) is immediately bonded to moisture. The key is, however, that the plastic grabs water molecules  only  on the side in direct contact with skin However, says Steve Spangler who operates the website, the plastic doesn’t absorb water molecules, it merely  grabs them.  As a result, the moist side expands, but the dry side remains unchanged.   Educational Tool Science teachers commonly hand out these fish to students and ask them to explain how they work. Students can propose a hypothesis to describe how the fortune-telling fish works and then design an experiment to test the hypothesis. Usually, students think the fish may move in response to body heat or electricity or by absorbing chemicals from the skin (such as salt, oil, or water). Spangler says you can extend the science lesson by having students place the fish on different parts of their bodies, such as the forehead, hands, arms, and even feet, to see if the  sweat glands in those areas produce different results.  Students can even test other, nonhuman objects to see if the fish reacts—and predicts the moods and emotions of a desk, countertop or even a pencil sharpener.

Analysis Of David Henry Thoreau s Poem, Where I Lived And...

Take a moment and think about what makes you happy on a typical day? More often than not, one would base their happiness on their ability to finish tasks and being able to check â€Å"things† off that have been accomplished. Infrequently, people rarely take the time to reflect on the simple pleasures in life. As expressed in David Henry Thoreau’s essay, â€Å"Where I lived and What I lived For†, humans need to simply their lives. We, as a society, have begun to become â€Å"frittered away by details† (Thoreau, 1100) and material things. Thoreau’s argument is convincing as it stresses the significance and importance of living a simple life that nature can give. As such, people should follow this perspective of life in the sense that one should try to do the unconventional and live simply. By living simply, one will be able to find happiness from within. Although a simple life is ideal, there are others who feel simplicity is, and can be equated to ignorance. As the historian Thomas Gray once noted, â€Å"Where ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise† (Ode on a Distant Prospect, 1783). In simpler terms, the less one knows about the world around them, the better off they are. Speicher-Cook 2 Those that believe the notion of ignorance as being blissful, and the ideology that it is easier to live without awareness of the world around them, do not feel the need to adapt. For example, children learn to accept what they have growing up. Recruitment and interview process In traditional time there were no specific criteria followed by the wine industry and they select the most productive employee as the managerial position by promoting them. However, in recent times, their communication ability is also evaluated. Moreover, the ability to research on the current trend of the advertising and promotion also plays a crucial role in selecting an effective manager for the designation of sales and marketing manager. Moreover, in traditional time, this industry values experience the most. However, in recent time, educational qualification is also taken into consideration. However, incorporation of technology resulted in the submission of job application form through online. The company- Australian Vintage utilizes the Skills and Behavioral Testing Software to ask targeted questions related to the position. Additionally, the personality if the candidate is also assessed so as to decide on the ability of the candidate to fit in their organization culture. I have to prepare for the situational assessments to prove my competency. Australian Vintage also has the technology for a video interview that assesses the ability of the candidates to evaluate the visual cues. This technology will enhance my versatility to present my communication skills and decision making ability based on the instant situation. I will also get the opportunity to know about new technology and experience them. The important thing that is considered is to represent my knowledge based on the wine industry and the main job roles of a sales and marketing manager. Task 1- I have suggested the option for formulating the online delivery and free home delivery options. Activity 1- I have presented few reasons like people in Australia are busy in working and the online sales will be high if these people get the opportunity to place and receive the order from the online platform. Result 1- The management conducted a survey of the customers after their purchase and a significant portion of people agree that online service and free home delivery facility will be beneficial for the organization. Situation 2- There was a situation when new computer system was introduced in the counters and some employees are facing problem in operating that system. Task 2- I have suggested conducting a meeting after the office hours for two days where details of the new systems, its operations and benefits will be shared. Activity 2- I have got the opportunity to take the presentation session and make everyone realize the effectiveness of the use of the new system. Result 2- The working ability of the employee enhanced and they were able to attend more customer than before from the next day of the session. I was rewarded as the employee of the week that time. Situation 3- This situation when the organization run out of sandwiches; however, the system shows that there were sufficient amount of sandwiches. Task 3- I suggested that there are some updating problem in the database and hence cloud technology to be incorporated. Activity 3- I have planned the blueprint of the cloud implementation along with some benefits and drawbacks. I have also suggested an idea to overcome the problem of data deletion from the cloud that is to protect te access with the password that only the management of the organization can access. Result 3- The management took the proposal to the business experts and they have addressed the plan for incorporating the cloud technology a great success. In the mock interview, I am well in explaining all the factors that I have gained from my educational qualifications and experiences. However, the new technology for an interviews like video recording interview and Skills and Behavioral Testing Software is new for me. I was hesitating initially but after attending three mock tests I am now able to face such interview with proper proficiency. I was asked about how well I can understand the demand of the customers. I answered this question well by answering them that I first noted their behaviour and then take the survey if time permits. Otherwise I take the most useful strategy that other competitive organizations are following in order t promote the sale of my organization. However, the question regarding managing the team conflict results in me some time to answer as solution varies depending on the conflict. I have asked for some situation based on which I have to resolve the conflict. I have answered successfully to all the situat ions. I have planned not to be nervous in future in interview. I have learned about all the aspects of asking a question in an interview. I have learned that the interview may ask a question-related to my hobbies but I have to link my point of interest with the job responsibilities for which I have applied. At the starting of the trimester, I was not able to express my strength and weakness and this illustrates my lack of communication skills with new people. Through my VCAL course, I have improved my speaking ability so that I can attend new clients and conduct presentation session with all the staffs when required. I have also learned to present the report effectively. I used to write in paragraphs and this result in lack of interest in reading my report even though only important data are present. I have learned to represent my report in bullets points supported by pictorial representations. I have also learned to prepare effective presentation slides and jot down the important point to be communicated in order to make my sessions a success. I have improved my researching skills for business environment analysis. References Berman, E. M., Bowman, J. S., West, J. P., Van Wart, M. R. Yom Kippur War Essay Example For Students

Yom Kippur War Essay International Effects of the Yom Kippur WarThe Arab-Israeli War of 1973 was an armed conflict between Israel and the Arab countries of Egypt and Syria, fought during the month of October 1973. Egypt and Syria initiated the conflict to regain territories that Israel had occupied since the Six-Day War of 1967. Although both sides suffered heavy losses during the 1973 war, Israel retained control of the territories. Because the conflict began on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur and took place during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the war is also called the Yom Kippur War by Israelis and the Ramadan War or the October War by Arabs.Although it brought about no significant changes to territorial boundaries, the 1973 war and its aftermath had far-ranging effects on the participant nations and their relations with world superpowers. Egypt moved steadily away from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), which had provided military and economic aid to Egypt since the 1950s, and into a closer relationship with the United States. Syria emerged from the war as the staunchest defender of Arab rights and the closest Middle Eastern ally of the USSR. In Israel, the war increased criticism of the countrys leaders, who eventually resigned. Finally, the war signaled an increased commitment by the United States to negotiate and guarantee Arab-Israeli agreements. Such agreements would center on the return of Israeli-held lands to Arab control, in exchange for Arab recognition of Israel and security guarantees. The long-standing conflict between Jews and Arabs over control of historic Palestine had resulted in wars in 1948, 1956, and 1967. The Arab opposition to the Jewish state of Israel included neighboring Arab states and, after 1964, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), a political body working to create a state for Palestinian Arabs. In the Six-Day War of 1967, Israel gained control of the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip, previously controlled by Egypt; the Gola n Heights, formerly belonging to Syria; and the West Bank and East Jerusalem, formerly administered by Jordan. Later that year, the United Nations (UN) adopted a resolution calling for Israeli withdrawal from these areas in exchange for Arab recognition of Israels independence and security. However, neither side met these conditions, and cross-border attacks and reprisals continued. In 1969 Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser launched a campaign on the Suez Canal known as the War of Attrition. The conflict, which did not escalate into a full-scale war, ended with a U.S.-brokered cease-fire in 1970.In the early 1970s Nassers successor, Anwar al-Sadat, pushed for Israeli withdrawal through diplomatic means, while simultaneously preparing Egypts military for war. Each year the UN passed resolutions calling for Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories. Israel refused to withdraw, and the United States suffered criticism from the international community for its support of Israe l. Meanwhile, the stalemate continued. Arab nations generally refused to negotiate until Israel withdrew. Israel, which refused to withdraw without guarantees of peace and security, fortified its positions in the occupied Arab territories.Neither the United States nor Israel believed that Arab forces could challenge Israels proven military power. The USSR, which had supported the Arab nations during previous wars with Israel and had resupplied Egypt militarily, knew that Egypt was preparing for war, but underestimated Sadats commitment to use a military option against Israel. Furthermore, neither Washington nor Moscow was fully aware of the profound differences in policy between the Egyptian and Syrian leaders. Although the ultimate goal for both leaders was to regain their territories from Israel, Sadat was willing to combine military means with the initiation of a diplomatic process, whereas Syrian president Hafez al-Assad did not want to sign any agreement with Israel that might recognize Israels legitimacy. Sadat, unlike Assad, also was willing to orient Egypts foreign policy away from the USSR and toward the United States. With mounting economic pressures at home, Sadat believed that the United States, rather than the USSR, would help Egypt more in the long term.Despite these differences, mutual frustration and impatience with the diplomatic status quo led Sadat and Assad to plan an attack in collusion. Because the two Arab leaders were focused more on their own particular national .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe , .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .postImageUrl , .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe , .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe:hover , .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe:visited , .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe:active { border:0!important; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe:active , .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u27bb84dc30c9f95e0bb69c9d967812fe:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Effects Of HIV Mutations On The Immune System Essay We will write a custom essay on Yom Kippur War specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now

Anthem Report essays

Anthem Report essays If I could summarize Anthem in a few words, I would say that it was a book about people struggling to find themselves. The story takes place in a city that is moving technologically backwards sometime in the future. I would describe the main character, Equality 7-2521, as a hero who stands up in what he believes in. Equality is an indirect character because the author didn't just tell us what he was like. You could tell that he was a nice person the way he thought and acted. He was pretty much a static character because he didn't change much throughout the book. He changed a little bit, but not enough to call him a dynamic character. I would say its somewhere in the middle. Equality is definitely a flat character. He stuck to one thing throughout the book, which is how much different he was than everybody else. My favorite line that Equality said is "We shall never leave this house nor let it be taken from us". This line tells you what type of person Equality was. It is showing you that he was strong in what he believed in and determined to do the right thing. Nobody really liked him except the people he had grown up with. The World Council was afraid of him because of his invention. It doesn't really say how he dressed, but I'm guessing he wore really dirty old clothes since he was a street sweeper and didn't have no money. In a nutshell, the plot is about a boy named Equality 7-2521 and a girl named Liberty 5-3000 trying to find the word I. Without a doubt, the climax of the story was when Equality 7-2521 ran away into the Uncharted forest. I found that when he found the underground tunnel to be the best part of the book. Each of these aspects of the novel helps to make it exciting and interesting. ...
